Today, the Backstage brand signifies something greater than simply casting notices: Backstage is a place where actors, singers, dancers, and all performers can connect with the greater performing arts community.
More importantly, Backstage is where performers can get all the information they need to succeed in the entertainment business, from what makes a great headshot to which acting coach may be right for them. And of course, actors browse through our casting notices.
Backstage takes pride in having the most up-to-date technology, whether you are creating a multimedia résumé or viewing casting notices. Upload your résumé, post photos, upload a reel—all can be done with the touch of a button.
But none of that technology means anything without the job listings. And we have the best notices in the business.
Backstage publishes over 1,500 top casting notices each week for thousands of roles covering every type of performance: film, stage, TV, commercials, multimedia, dance, voiceovers, singing, and more. Included are opportunities for both adults and children. Plus, we offer ads seeking people in related fields, such as stage/film crews, models, musicians, and writers.
Besides performance hubs New York City and Los Angeles, we publish notices for dozens of other cities across the United States and Canada, including Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Miami, Philadelphia, Austin, Seattle, New Orleans, and many more. Simply search by state/province and job type to see what's available in your area.
Note: You do NOT need to be a subscriber to search our listings. To view complete notices, however, requires a Backstage online subscription.
Actors are, unfortunately, highly vulnerable to all kinds of sleazy operators and scam artists. Backstage takes particular pride in trying to prevent that.
We offer every actor our unique Backstage Casting You Can Trust pledge: Every single casting notice is personally and carefully checked by one of our in-house casting editors, who are all experts in their field. And when scams are discovered, the scam listings are quickly rejected and the offending accounts are shut down.
The listings on Backstage are posted by casting directors instantly on the site, so that actors can apply right away, and sometimes scams need to be watched out for. However, these unreviewed items are marked with a special "Instant Access" banner to let actors know that the items haven't been verified yet. Then, our casting specialists read through and correct the listings, ask the casting directors questions, identify potential problems, conduct research, review feedback from the actors that have applied to the project, and more. Most scams are removed from the site within minutes, and the offending accounts are shut down. Pornographic casting calls are also rejected.
Additionally, Backstage requires that every project clearly state if there are any special fees required of actors (such as membership dues, workshop-participation fees, talent competition entry fees, etc.) and whether or not a project is paying actors or is unpaid.
If you find that a casting notice or ad in Backstage is actually a scam or deliberately misleading, please let Backstage know ASAP. Backstage takes complaints very seriously.
No other publication takes the steps we do to protect actors. And more than 30,000 productions successfully cast with Backstage every year.
We want to empower actors by supplying the most complete information possible about a project, so you know exactly what to expect at an audition before you attend. Then, if you are told something completely different, contact us immediately and we'll investigate.
