Presented by Ars Nova Theater and Broadway.com, the Broadway Spotlight Series continues with the charismatic MICHAEL WINTHER on Monday July 1st at 8:00 PM. The series kicked off with 42nd Street?s Meredith Patterson (April 8th) and continued with Aida?s Felicia Finley (May 6th) and Broadway favorite Anthony Rapp (June 3rd). Broadway Spotlight Series brings the brightest and newest stars of the Great White Way to the intimate 99-seat Ars Nova Theater (511 West 54th Street), lighting up dark nights the first Monday of every month.
In describing the monthly event, Broadway Spotlight Series Artistic Director Gordon Greenberg explains, "This is an incredible opportunity to see some of Broadway's most exciting young talent as individual performers in an up-close and personal environment. For about the cost of a movie, audiences get a completely original evening with a major talent. We are committed to offering this sort of an intimate platform to performers, composers and lyricists who wish to explore new material in a comfortable setting. There couldn't be a better venue than the beautiful new Ars Nova Theater!"
On Monday, July 1st the series welcomes Michael Winther accompanied by Kimberly Grigsby in an exciting evening of original songs from emerging composers and lyricists. Most recently Michael was a member of the outstanding Broadway company of The Crucible. He has appeared on Broadway in other notable productions such as Hapgood at Lincoln Center, Artist Descending a Staircase and the Broadway revivals of Damn Yankees and 1776. Off-Broadway he was seen in Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill, The Predator's Ball, Forever Plaid and Tony and Tina's Wedding.
Mr. Winther?s work in film and television includes starring in the comic short The Tag and Joe's Apartment, as well as supplying the voices for the animated series 'Rocket Power' and 'The Wild Thornberrys.' The New York Times praises, 'Endowed with a strong, appealing folk-pop voice, Michael displays the range, ballast and discipline of a trained theater singer.'
Michael's musical director and accompanist for the evening is musician extrordinaire Kimberly Grigsby. Kimberly is currently conducting the orchestra for The Full Monty. Her other Broadway conducting credits include: You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Twelfth Night. Other credits include: Floyd Collins, The First Picture Show, Honk!, Telaio and Fools Rush In.
Ars Nova Theater was built in the memory of Gabe Wiener to provide artists a space to develop and perform new works in an intimate audience setting.
