Face Divided and North of Providence
e Catalyst Theatre Company announces its premier production FACE DIVIDED and NORTH OF PROVIDENCE By Edward Allan Baker OPENING FEBRUARY 7, 2003 FACE DIVIDED, spends a night in the emergency room with a young married couple Debbie and Freddie whose three-year-old daughter has fallen down a flight of steps. It explores the aspects of children trying to be adults and the reality of the life they are in. Confronting the loss of their own childhood and falling into the cycle of their past. NORTH OF PROVIDENCE, takes us into the life of Carol trying to get her brother Bobbie to acknowledge that this is their fathers last day. Through her trying to convince him to take action in his life it is discovered that the cause for the loss of closeness they once had was her rape several years earlier. The unspoken issue that has speed the process of their family coming apart. These two intimate pieces will provide an emotional experience as an audience is allowed a glimpse into the lives of real people and their fight with the loss of innocence. As noted by The New York Times, NORTH OF PROVIDENCE is "an exemplar of the one-act art". Edward Allan Baker - B.A., University of Rhode Island. Screenplays include: Dolores, Welcometabrooklyn, The Buffer, Coastal Frames, Rosemary with Ginger and High Steel Indian. Recipient of a playwriting grant from the Connecticut Arts Council. Member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre. SLC,1999- Catalyst Theatre Company formed with a group of artists that held the common ideal of theatre being the end not the means, that theatre should be inspiring as well as entertaining. *** FACE DIVIDED and NORTH OF PROVIDENCE opens on February 7th and runs through March 2nd.
