The following is a list of theatre departments at selected colleges, universities, and conservatories in the United States offering degrees or certificates. Those that are members of NAST (National Association of Schools of Theatre) and U/RTA (University/Resident Theatre Association) are indicated as such.

Schools are listed alphabetically within each state. This is an update of the list that ran in November, 2004. In order to update the list, Back Stage sent out questionnaires to the schools and also checked against the NAST and U/RTA directories. For more specific information, contact the schools directly.

The National Association of Schools of Theatre, established in 1969, aims to "improve educational practices and maintain high professional standards in theatre education." The University/Resident Theatre Association, also founded in 1969, was established to "work towards the highest standards in theatre production and performance and to help bring resident professional theatre to the university campus and its community."
