Judi Dench to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award

COLOGNE, Germany - Oscar-winner Judi Dench will receive this year's lifetime achievement award, the Crystal Globe, at the 46th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The honor, given for an outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema, has previously gone to such cinematic luminaries as Robert de Niro, French actress Isabelle Huppert and Czech director Juraj Herz. Dench will attend this year's Karlovy Vary fest, which runs July 1-9.

The Crystal Globe is just the latest in the shelf-load of honors for Dench, who can boast of four Academy Award nominations, including her win for Best Supporting Actress playing Queen Elizabeth in "Shakespeare in Love." She has received 8 Golden Globe noms and won twice - Best Actress for "Her Majesty," "Mrs. Brown" and for Best Actress in a mini-series in "The Last of the Blond Bombshells," a role that earned her the first of three Emmy nominations. Dench has also won numerous BAFTA awards, most recently for her starring role as writer Iris Murdoch in "Iris" (2002). In 1970, she was named a Dame of the British Empire and in 2008 received a lifetime achievement award from the European Film Academy.

None of that has stopped or slowed the 76-year-old actress, who has back-to-back projects. After appearing briefly in "Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides," Dench can be seen playing Mrs. Fairfax in Cary Fukunaga's "Jane Eyre" reboot. Her upcoming features include the pharmacist-focused comedy "Better Living Through Chemistry" and a return to the role of M in the new "James Bond," directed by Sam Mendes and set to hit theaters next year.
