NEW YORK (AP) -- Don't bring down the final curtain on Broadway's "Ragtime" just yet.

The $8 million revival of the musical based on E.L. Doctorow's best-seller about early 20th-century America will now close Jan. 10, one week later than originally announced.

Producer Kevin McCollum says a surge in ticket sales has allowed the show to stay open at the Neil Simon Theatre for an additional eight performances.

The ambitious production opened Nov. 15 to generally positive notices but was never able to draw a large enough audience to sustain its high running costs.

The musical has a book by Terrence McNally and a score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. The current production originated last spring at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington.
