Actress and humanitarian activist Eva Longoria Parker has been named Philanthropist of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter.

THR's Philanthropy Issue on Monday highlights Longoria Parker and her philanthropic pursuits. The paper will host a private reception Monday evening in her honor in West Hollywood.

Longoria Parker was chosen for her relentless dedication to giving back to her community and serving others as well as for her long-standing commitment to Latino causes.

"I've never met a more conscientious and socially aware young, energetic talent," THR publisher Eric Mika said. "Eva's efforts on behalf of the causes near and dear to her are Herculean. She pours her free time and energy into raising millions of dollars for charitable missions that make a difference in the Latino community and other humanitarian organizations."

The "Desperate Housewives" star serves as the national spokesperson for Padres Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer), a nonprofit committed to improving the lives of Latino children with cancer and their families. She came to Padres in 2003, when she began visiting hospitalized children.

In 2006, Longoria Parker founded Eva's Heroes, a nonprofit in her hometown of San Antonio. It provides an after-school program with an inclusive setting for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The actress also serves as exec producer, in collaboration with nonprofit producer Shine Global, on "The Harvest," a documentary focusing on the plight of the 500,000 child farm workers in America, most of whom are Latino.
