The dialogue snaps at the beginning of Matt Owen's "The Girl in the Park." In what might be termed the flip side of Albee's "The Zoo Story," a man and a woman meet in Central Park. The Girl (as she's identified) is assertive, coming on to him, correcting his grammar, while he—named Allan—is annoyed. They soon hook up, even though he's married. But Allan's wife, Hannah, we learn quickly, is having an affair with Will, her husband's golden-boy brother, who is in turn involved with the title character in unexpected ways.

Going back and forth in time, with the help of Kate Freer's beautiful projections, we get intimations of a "La Ronde" situation that despite its familiarity could certainly be developed into an intriguing play. As cleverly directed by Jesca Prudencio and acted by a knowing cast (Tom Patrick Stephens, Ana Nogueira, Christy McIntosh, and Burt Grinstead), "The Girl in the Park" has clarity issues but also distinct possibilities.
