Production Description

Classical Theatre of Harlem is casting 'A Midsummer Night's Dream.' Prod. states, "This production weaves Harlem’s artistic legacy and other African Diasporic traditions within the text through the depiction of Ancient Athens and the world of the fairies. Ancient Athens exists as an abstraction of Harlem’s legacy--the African melting pot of the New World. The setting of the production is not any specific moment in Harlem’s history. Instead, “Athens” exists as an amalgam of time and culture--an elusive moment when time converges on itself—ancient and contemporary—spirit and living--city and nature--African and American. Many of the characters may have African or Caribbean accents and be required to move well."
