American Performance Alliance

Production Description

Seeking participants for the 2014-15 season of American Performance Alliance, a performance-based professional acting program. Company states: "The APA acting program is the most unique process you will ever participate in, with guaranteed casting and never a fee of any kind. Unlike most acting programs where you work on drills, improvisation, and scenes, our program is one hundred percent performance based. The day you are accepted into the program, our coach starts evaluating your skill sets, type, goals, and needs. Within a couple of weeks, our writers are creating an original professional stage play that you will star in if your work rises to the level of a professional production. These plays are usually two-three characters, so the roles are substantial, dynamic, and professional. You will have a paid, contract-protected performance engagement for nine performances in the APA theater. During what we call the 'pre-rehearsal' process you and your co-star will meet every week once or twice a week with the coach/director, where you will work on and develop every aspect of the role including character development, background, learning lines, reflex acting, and virtually every topic covered in any professional acting program. Your scheduled times are selected by you and your partner from many time slots set aside for this process, including day and evening slots, so flexibility is greater than in any other program. When the project reaches the stage of professional potential, you will go into full rehearsal and all aspects of the professional production will begin. This process gives the actor the most flexible acting program and the highest possible potential for success and training. Once the play is completed it is adapted to a screenplay and the entire process starts over, but the end product is a feature film with the same actors reprising the roles. We are unaware of any program like this anywhere in the country."

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations

Rehearsals and performances are TBD at the APA theater in Sylmar, CA (North San Fernando Valley).

Compensation & Union Contract Details

Company states; "Payments are based on the size of the role, but all actors receive $150-$300 for the rehearsal process and a per-performance payment based on the audience size. This usually runs between $50 and $100 per performance. Contract stipulates the exact amount. All payments are made within 24 hours of the show's closing performance."
