Production Description

Seeking an assistant technical director to oversee, maintain and provide both instructional and technical assistance in Theatre Arts and in the sculpture and ceramics studios at Stony Brook University.

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations

Position is part-time (approx. 28 hrs./wk.) for 10 months in the Theatre Arts Department at the Stony Brook West Campus/HSC in NY. Note: The months of June and July are non-obligation months, days and hours vary. FLSA non-exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Some night and weekend work may be required. Travel will be required to pick up orders from vendors. This position is eligible for health insurance benefits.

Compensation & Union Contract Details

Pays $24,000-$29,500 for a .75 FTE (approx. 28 hours per week) for a 10 month obligation.

Campus Description

Brief Description of Duties

* Under the direction of the Technical Director, assist the students execute the safe and professional construction of scenery for the Department's productions.
* Help train and supervise students in safe/proper shop and theatre equipment use.
* Under the direction of the Technical Director, help supervise and execute the safe and professional hanging, circuiting, and focusing of the light plots for the departments productions.
* Help supervise and maintain a safe and professional work environment in the scene shop and department theatres.
* Help with the supervision of production load-ins and strikes.
* Help with routine equipment repair and maintenance.
* Participate in pre-production planning as it pertains to all elements of scenic design.
* Attendance and supervision of technical rehearsals and performances as needed.
* Help supervise and execute, under the direction of the Technical Director, the hanging and installation of audio systems for the department's production.
* Assist Sculpture/Studio technician in maintaining Staller Center studios and classrooms as needed: ensuring that health and safety rules are being followed in the MFA Studios. Periodically, may assist in routine machinery and tool maintenance.
* Oversight of South Campus Studios; ensuring all fire and safety regulations are followed. Report any problems to the Chair. Assist in maintaining equipment and provide support as needed to director of Studios.
* Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
