Production Description

Casting "Behind the Shadow" a 10-minute radio drama for New York University in which a young boy lives in a world with his mother where the sun hasn't set in ten years. He doesn't know anything about his father, only that he died in a car crash when the boy was very little. His mother is a performance artist, and does a show with a shadow screen. The boy presents on his mother’s profession at school, and after class is approached by a girl who invites herself over to his house for dinner. The girl comes over and asks to see the shadow screen, and then uses a spell she read in an old book to open a portal to the shadow world. Not expecting it to work, she is shocked, and the two are suddenly sucked into the shadow world. There, a warrant is put out for the girl’s arrest because she is a mortal, but a townsperson helps the two by taking them in. The townsperson explains to the boy and girl that the shadow world has been dark for ten years because the king who is in charge of making the earth turn fell into a deep depression when his son died. The boy and girl must overcome the obstacles that the shadow world puts before them and try to get to the king.
