Production Description

Casting Berkeley Repertory Theatre's 2014-15 season. Season includes: "An Audience with Meow Meow" (Meow Meow and Emma Rice, writers; Emma Rice, dir. Rehearsals begin Aug. 5; previews begin Sept. 5; runs Sept. 12-Oct. 19, 2014 with possible extension through Nov. 2); "Party People" (a musical) (Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, Steven Sapp & William Ruiz a.k.a. Ninja, writers; Liesl Tommy, dir. Rehearsals begin Sept. 16; previews begin Oct. 17; runs Oct. 24-Nov. 16, 2014 with possible extension through Nov. 30); "Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins" (Margaret Engel & Allison Engel, writers; David Esbjornson, dir. previews begin Nov. 21; runs Nov. 28, 2014-Jan. 4, 2015 with possible extension through Jan. 18); Play TBD (rehearsals begin Dec. 16, 2014; previews begin Jan. 16; runs Jan. 23-March 1, 2015 with possible extension through March 15); "Tartuffe" (Moliere, writer; David Bell, adaptation; Dominique Serand, dir. Rehearsals begin Feb. 27; previews begin March 13; runs March 20-April 12, 2015 with possible extension through April 19); "Head of Passes" (Tarell Alvin McCraney, writer; Tina Landau, dir. Compensation & Union Contract Details

Pays: $875 min./wk. Equity LORT Non-Rep Contract. Note: Housing is not available for out-of-town performers.

A Panther Cub; Collaborates with Jimmy on the BPP/YLP event; He is trying to maintain a relationship with his father, who is in prison.

Tito (50S-60S), Latino male, Puerto Rican, Spanish speaker, tough, street. Primo’s uncle; a former Young Lords Party member; Retired but still involved in union organizing and a prison reentryprogram; Was once in a romantic relationship with Helita.

Clara (20-30) dark skinned Latina, singer, Spanish song.
Daughter of Young Lords’ members; Co-Raised by Helita; She
wants nothing to do with a revolution that robbed her of her

Amira: (50s-60s) African American female. Blue’s wife and former Black Panther Party member; Protects Blue and his eccentricities.

Blue: (50s-60s) African American male
Former Black Panther Party member; Incarcerated for
involvement in a shootout that left a police officer dead but
was ultimately proven not guilty.

Donna: (50s-60s) Caucasian female,
Widow of murdered police officer.

Maruca: (50s-60s) Latina female, Puerto Rican, Poise, power, chops.Former Young Lords Party member; She is both ruthless andromantic, and is not well accepted by others who have doubts
about her past indiscretions.

Marcus: (50s-60s) Caucasian male, off the grid, former activist.
Affiliated with Fred Hampton’s Rainbow Coalition in Chicago. A collector of memorabilia.

Omar: (This role is cast)
Former Black Panther Party member; An Army war veteran; Seeks
a public apology for having been tortured when others thought
he was an informant.

Solias: (50s-60s) African American male
COINTELPRO agent provocateur infiltrating the Black Panther

Roger: (double cast with Marcus)
COINTELPRO agent; Teaches informants how to infiltrate.

All cast members are the chorus.
