Role Description

Actor/Singers: performers who have great pop/rock voices (style is "emo" or pop/punk), as opposed to legit musical theater, especially seeking strong comic actors who sing, actors should be able to move well and have an ensemble sensibility, all must be adept at deadpan humor and playing multiple characters, including various frontiersmen, Native Americans, and soldiers. [ANDREW JACKSON] Male, to play mid-20s. Caucasian. A roguish "man’s" president; deeply charming and sexy, but also an extremely violent, arrogant, bigoted idiot who fights for what he believes in. Extremely charismatic, with emo tendencies. Must be able to sing to Bb4. Guitar a plus.

[BLACK FOX] Male, to play mid 20s-mid 30s. Native American chief who is intelligent and somber with a hint of danger. He used to have an alliance with Jackson. Doubles as other roles.

[ENSEMBLE] 2 females & 2 males, to play early 20s-early 30s. Strong pop/rock singers excellent at playing various characters. Guitar a plus.

[FEMALE SOLOIST] Female, to play 20s-30s. Self-confident, attractive singer with powerful, emotive indie rock voice. Dark, mysterious, hip vibe. Belts to a Bb. Doubles as other roles.

[HENRY C. CLAY] Male, to play mid 20s – mid 30s. An over-the-top, vivacious, tall, cadaverous, and villainous senator with greasy hair who wears weasel pelts. Doubles as other roles.

[JOHN CALHOUN] Male, to play mid 20s - early 30s. A sinister, good-looking, charming, and brilliant gentlemen senator from the South; a vain mastermind. Can double as other roles. Doubles as other roles.

[JOHN QUINCY ADAMS] Male, to play early 20s-early 30s. The former President’s whiny, spoiled, and demanding son who really wants to be president. Doubles as other roles.

[LYNCOYA] Male or female, to play a boy of 8-12. Adopted Native American son of Andrew Jackson who has a sweet disposition with a wild streak.

[MALE SOLOIST] Male, to play 18-mid 20s. Brooding, intense rocker with powerful, emotive indie rock voice. He is angsty, good-looking, young, and hip. Doubles as other roles.

[MARTIN VAN BUREN] Male, to play mid 20s-mid 30s. Jackson’s right hand man who is in over his head. A well-intentioned and utterly lovable buffoon. Doubles as other roles.

[RACHEL] Female, to play mid 20s - mid 30s. Jackson's wife. Deeply religious and devoted to Jackson. Strangely alluring but not overtly sexual. Doubles as other roles. Rock alto, belt to B4.

[THE STORYTELLER] Female, to play late 20s-early 40s. A milquetoast, oppressively good-natured, history-loving narrator who has not had much excitement in her life.
