Nellie Forbush A spunky young nurse from Arkansas. Tomboyish, optimistic, Mary Martin type. Legit mezzo low A to C; age 20-30
Emile deBecque A mature, sophisticated French planter - Operatic Bass, French accent; age 40-55
Lt. Joseph Cable An extremely handsome and intelligent Lieutenant with a bright future in the US Navy. Tenor E to high G; age 23-28
Luther Billis A loveable character who provides his fellow marines with much-needed comic relief. Does not respect authority. Enterprising, stubborn. Adores Nellie. Baritone; age 30-50
Bloody Mary Shrewd native merchant who makes a fortune off the sailors. Mother of Liat. Comedic role. Haunting Mezzo, low G to high F; age 30+
Liat A beautiful Polynesian girl who steals the heart of Joe Cable. Bloody Mary's daughter. Non-singing; age 16+
Ngana & Jerome Emile's children speak French; age 6-12
Henry Emile's native servant, speaks French
Captain George Bracket Commanding officer on the island. Slightly pompous but not without a soft side. age 40+

Danny The leader of the "T-Birds". Well built, good looking, with an air of cool, easy going charm. Strong and confident. Vocal Range D – High B Good Falsetto to High Db (optional); Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Kenickie Second-in-command of the "T-Birds". Tough looking, tattooed, surly, avoids any show of softness. Has an off-beat sense of humor. Vocal Range D – F#; Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Doody Youngest of the guys. Small, boyish, open, with a disarming smile and a hero-worshipping attitude toward the other guys. Plays guitar (optional). Vocal Range D – G Good Falsetto to High Eb (optional); (16+)
Roger The 'anything for a laugh' stocky type. Full of mischief, half-baked schemes and ideas. A clown who enjoys putting other people on. Vocal Range F–G; (16+)
Sonny A wannabe tough guy who thinks he's a real lady killer. (16+)
Eugene The class valedictorian. Physically awkward. A nerdy apple polisher, smug and pompous but gullible. (16+)
Vince Fontaine Adult, a typical 'teen audience' radio disc jockey. Slick, egotistical, fast-talking. A veteran 'greaser'. Non singing; Must be able to convincingly play an adult (30+)
Johnny Casino A 'greaser' student at Rydell who energetically leads a rock'n'roll band and likes to think of himself as a real rock'n'roll idol (like Elvis). Vocal Range A – C Good Falsetto to High C (optional)
Teen Angel A good looking, falsetto voiced crooner. A singer who would have caused the girls (and women) to scream and riot back in 1958. Vocal Range E – B Good Falsetto to E; Must be able to convincingly play a 'celebrity' (25+)
Sandy Danny's love interest. Sweet, wholesome, naïve, cute, like Sandra Dee of the 'Gidget' movies. However, must be able to play sassy and sultry after her transformation. Vocal Range A-D; Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Rizzo Leader of the "Pink Ladies". She is tough, sarcastic and outspoken, but vulnerable during a pregnancy scare. Italian, with unconventional good looks. Vocal Range A-C; Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Frenchy A dreamer. Good natured but a little dumb. Heavily made-up, fussy about her appearance – particularly her hair. She can't wait to finish high school so she can be a beautician. Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Marty The 'beauty' of the Pink Ladies. Pretty, looks older than the other girls, but betrays her real age when she opens her mouth. Tries to act sophisticated. Vocal Range C-Db; Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Jan Energetic, bubbly, and eating all the time! Loud and pushy with the girls, but shy with the boys. Vocal Range Bb-Bb; (16+)
Patty A typical all American cheerleader. Attractive and athletic. Aggressive, sure of herself, given to burst of disconcerting enthusiasm. Catty. Cheerleading / Baton Swirling; Must be able to convincingly play an older teenager (16+)
Cha-Cha Kenickie's blind date, who dances and wins the Hand Jive with Danny. 16+
