Production Description

Arena Stage is casting its 2013-14 season. Season includes "Love in Afghanistan" by Charles Randolph Wright, in which Duke and Roya, two distinctly different people, are discovering love in the most unlikely of places: war-torn Afghanistan (Rehearsal begins Sept. 10; runs Oct. 24-Nov. 17), "Tappin' Thru Life," a co-production with Alliance Theatre and Cleveland Playhouse in which Maurice Hines pays tribute to his brother, Gregory, and the singers who have inspired him, from Frank Sinatra to Lena Horne (Runs Oct. 15-Dec. 29. Jeff Calhoun, dir.), "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" by Todd Kreidler, based on the screenplay by William Rose, in which a progressive white couple’s proud liberal sensibilities are put to the test when their daughter, fresh from an overseas romance, brings her African-American fiancé home to meet them (Rehearsal begins Oct. 29; runs Dec. 5, 2013-Jan. 5, 2014. Kenny Leon, dir.), "Mother Courage" by Bertolt Brecht, in which tough-as-nails matriarch Mother Courage profits off the very war that steals her children from her one by one in this unique in-the-round staging of Brecht’s landmark anti-war play, fusing politics, satire, and music (Rehearsal begins Jan. 2, 2014; runs Feb. 6, 2014-Mar. 9, 2014. Molly Smith, dir.), "Camp David" by Lawrence Wright, in which President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn host Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat for thirteen tumultuous days, in an attempt to create peace in the Middle East (Rehearsal begins Feb. 18, 2014; runs Apr. 3, 2014-May 4, 2014. Molly Smith, dir.), and "Smokey Joe's Café" by Jerry Leiber and Matt Stoller (Rehearsal begins Mar. 25, 2014; runs May 8, 2014-June 8, 2014. Randy Johnson, dir.)
