Production Description

Casting "Experience," a high-budget short by "two ambitious filmmakers from Columbia University." Producer states: "'Experience' is a 21-minute short film that follows four college sophomores as they navigate an average day. Over the span of twenty-four hours, these four students participate in the various activities of university life – they party, go to class, cope with hangovers, check Facebook, study, smoke, pregame, debate, drink, hookup, party again, and pass out. However, unlike common depictions of college life, Experience is interested in looking at the deeper human aspects of what it’s like to be a college student. The film will address the difficult, turbulent aspects of life at university, and it will seek to depict and evoke the authentic experience of life in college, with all of its expectations, disappointments, pressures, impulses, and aspirations. In doing so, 'Experience' hopes to defy and combat the myths that are commonly propagated in film about the college experience - myths that are typified in films like 'American Pie' and 'Animal House' – that college is a non-stop orgy of pleasure, comfort, thrill and satisfaction. Using a framework of social media to tell its story, and utilizing moments of ambiguous experience and stylized reality, the film seeks to distinguish between the authentic experience of life in an American college and that which is commonly advertised and mythologized, and ultimately hopes to illustrate an honest portrait of the college student as conflicted, desirous, striving, and above all, human."
