Role Description

Tony D'Angelo: (Lead) good looking, Italian-American looking, '60s pop voice, think Fabian/Frankie Avalon/Bobby Rydell voice. He was born and raised in Greenwich Village’s Italian-American community and is a blue collar construction worker. He is muscular. A bar regular. Tony is disgruntled with social changes happening around him. He is a ladies’ man, but tough guy who turns out to have a good heart. Keeps a comb in his back pocket to run it through his thick, slick, black hair. Smirks at other ragtag musicians at Folk City. Friends with Mike for a long time. Hanging out with his neighborhood buddies. It’s a little taboo to be interested in Karen. He may be a little caricature-ish. He represents the changes that go on, even though he’s the most resistant to it. Creates tension but is also the comic relief. Has toughness and cluelessness to him. He’s a funny character. At first he looks for trouble once other characters move in his turf (Folk City). He sings.
