Role Description

Kevin Ponder, Sr: (Supporting) grew up in Valdosta, GA during the Jim Crow era; participated in the civil rights movement as a community organizer and the NAACP representative for the area; met his wife Janice during this time; in the late '60s the couple with their two sons Kevin Jr. (12) and Chris (4) to the South Bronx, New York; a dreamer who envisioned a better life in New York for his family than the conditions of the Deep South; became dismayed when he felt the treated with the same disrespect characteristic of southern race relations; in New York, lost a good job because he spoke out against a perceived racial bias in the work place; was never able to keep steady employment because of the economic crisis of the time; lead to turmoil between he and his wife; left his family a few years after they moved to the South Bronx.
