Production Description

Casting the 2014-15 GableStage season. Season includes "Bad Jews" (Joshua Harmon, writer. Rehearsals begin Oct. 28; runs Nov. 22-Dec. 21), "Choir Boy" (Tarell Alvin McCraney, writer. Rehearsals begin Dec. 30; runs Jan. 24-Feb. 22, 2015), "New Jerusalem" (David Ives, writer. Rehearsals begin March 3; runs March 28-April 26), "Casa Valentina" (Harvey Fierstein, writer. Rehearsals begin May 5; runs May 30-June 28), "I'll Eat You Last (A Chat With Sue Mengers)" (John Logan, writer. Rehearsals begin July 7; runs Aug. 1-30), and "The Night Alive" (Conor McPherson, writer. Rehearsals begin Sept. 8; runs Oct. 3-Nov. 1).

BAD JEWS by Joshua Harmon
Rehearsal starts Oct. 28th | Runs November 22nd thru December 21st

DAPHNA FEYGENBAUM (F, 22) -- (ALREADY CAST) Liam and Jonah's first cousin. Two-thirds body, one-third hair.

LIAM HABER (M, 25) -- (ALREADY CAST) Daphna's cousin: his mother is the sister of Daphna's father. Ph.D. student. Former Fulbright scholar in Japan. Has as much of a sense of humor as an overdue library book.

JONAH HABER (M, 21) -- (ALREADY CAST) Liam's younger brother. Sometime-University of Vermont sophomore. Less lanky than his brother. Less brainy. More brawn. More heart.

MELODY (F, 24) -- Liam's girlfriend. Short blonde hair. Which she wears with a barrette. To be extra cute. Works for a non-profit.

CHOIR BOY by Tarell Alvin McCraney
Rehearsal starts Dec. 30th | Runs January 24th thru February 22nd

HEADMASTER MARROW (M, late 30’s, early 40’s) -- Man of Color, Is the Youngest and latest Headmaster for the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys. He is Paternal Uncle to BOBBY MARROW. MUST SING.

PHARUS JONATHAN YOUNG (M, late teens) -- An effeminate young man of color. Begins the play a junior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys and the Lead of the School’s famous choir. MUST SING.

MR PENDLETON (M, late 60s, 70’s) White male, professor at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys.

BOBBY MARROW (M, mid to late teens) -- A young man of color, BOBBY is a junior at the Charles R Drew Prep School, and member of the School’s Choir. He is also nephew to HEADMASTER MARROW. MUST SING.

JUNIOR DAVIS (M, teen) A young man of color, and a junior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys. He is a member of the School’s Choir. MUST SING.

ANTHONY JUSTIN ‘AJ’ JAMES (M, late teens) -- Athletic young man of color, a senior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys. He is a member of the School’s Choir and the Schools Baseball Team. MUST SING.

DAVID HEARD (M, late teens) -- A young man of color, a senior at the Charles R Drew Prep School for Boys. He is a member of the School’s Choir. MUST SING.

Rehearsal starts March 3rd | Runs March 28th thru April 26th

Abraham Van Valkenburg (M, 45) -- a regent of Amsterdam

Saul Levi Mortera (M, 60 or more) -- chief rabbi of Amsterdam

Gaspar Rodrigues Ben Israel (M, 50 or so) -- a trustee of the congregation of Talmud Torah

Baruch de Spinoza (M, 23) -- a merchant of Amsterdam

Simon de Vries (M, 23) -- a painter

Clara Van Den Enden (F, 20) -- a music teacher

Rebekah de Spinoza (F, 26) -- Baruch's half-sister

Rehearsal starts May 5th | Runs May 30th thru June 28th

Rita (F, 50s) -- Ten years older than GEORGE. A resigned, determined, but worn earth mother.

Jonathon / Miranda (M, 30) -- Masculine, shy and bookish. Overly polite and cautious as a male. As a female she is ebullient. (Appears in and out of drag)

Albert / Bessie (M, 50s) -- Chubby. Willie Loman by day, Ethel Mertz at night. Quick witted and friendly. Unaffectedly feminine. (Appears in drag only)

George / Valentina (M, 40s) -- Married to RITA. An insurance salesman type as a man. Assured and charming. (Appears in and out of drag).

Charlotte / Isadore (M, 50s) -- The ultimate wasp. A buttoned down strict disciplinarian. Not your favorite aunt. (Appears in drag only)

Michael / Gloria (M, 30s) -- A very handsome and sexually charged chap who is accustomed to compliments whether dressed as a male or female. (Appears in drag only)

Theodore / Terry (M, 70s) -- Sweet and gentle and slightly silly like a favorite old auntie. (Appears in drag only)

The Judge / Amy (M, 70) -- Large, distinguished, powerful and imposing as a man, and a clunky sort of Tug-boat Annie woman. (Appears in and out of drag)

Eleanor (F, 50) -- The Judge's daughter. Brittle, cold and damaged.

Rehearsal starts July 7th | Runs August 1st thru August 30th

SUE MENGERS (F) -- Mid 40s to mid 50s. A hugely successful and important Hollywood Agent who represents many very famous actors.

THE NIGHT ALIVE by Conor McPherson
Rehearsal starts Sept. 8th | Runs October 3rd thru November 1st

Maurice (M, 70s) -- An elderly gentleman. Fastidious. The older uncle from whom Tommy rents the room.

Tommy (M, 50s) -- Well built but well worn. A mountainous slob of a man.

Aimee (F, late 20s) -- A sometime prostitute who limits her services to manual stimulation. Skinny and also well worn.

Doc (M, 40s) -- An odd-job man. His thoughts are always five to 10 minutes behind everybody else.

Kenneth (M, late 30s) -- Slim but strong looking. An innocuous-seeming stranger.
