Production Description

Casting "Gofish," a film about an intercultural friendship between two young girls who meet over a game of gofish and bond through the occasional "girlhood issues." Synopsis: "Hannah is Jewish and the only child. She wants friends, but can never seem to relate to anyone. Rachel is African American and has friends, but she carries the burden of her single mother's worries and keeps her problems to herself. After finding out some bad news about her uncle, Rachel and her mother move out of Brownsville and into Crown Heights shortly after the Crown Heights riot of '91. Not only do the girls become friends, but next door neighbors. With tension still boiling in the community their friendship is put

Hannah & Rachel Meet

EXT. BROWNSTONE STOOP- DAY

RACHEL: What’s your name?
HANNAH: Hannah.
RACHEL: Hannah?
Hannah shakes her head yes.
CONT''D RACHEL: My name’s Rachel!
HANNAH: That’s a Jewish name, it means to be pure
RACHEL: It is? My mother didn’t want me to have a ghetto name like all the other girls, that’s why she named me my name. BEAT. You wanna play gofish with me? My uncle bought me a fresh pack of cards.
HANNAH: I’m not sure I know how.
RACHEL: It’s easy, I can teach you.
HANNAH: Okay.
Rachel runs inside the house to grab the pack of cards. When she comes back outside, she lets out a laugh, because Hannah is standing by the gate.
RACHEL: We can’t play standing, come on, sit right her
Hannah takes a seat on the stoop next to Rachel. Rachel pulls out a fresh pack of cards and begins to shuffle them.
HANNAH: How do you do that?
RACHEL: What shuffling? I don’t know, guess I just learned from watching my uncle.
