Production Description

Casting a feature, "Green of Power." Director states: "A group of correctional officers at Salinas Valley State Prison near Soledad formed an alliance in 1999 that they called the Green Wall, after the color of their uniforms. Alleged members of the Green Wall employed a 'code of silence' to hide activities including roughing up inmates after several guards were injured on Thanksgiving Day 1998. Members of the Green Wall set up inmates for assaults, vandalized cars of fellow employees who were not members or intimidated other staff members. To this day every year, thousands of complaints are filed against correction officers in the prison system for acts of violence against inmates. In most cases, these complaints never even make it to someone that will actually do something to put a stop to it. 'Green of Power' is about a young man, Brad Bishop, recently graduates from high school in the summer of 2003 with no job and no idea of what he wants to do for a career. During a hot summer day, Brad waits for his cousin, Mike Taylor, to pick him up from his house. Brad's father pressures him into finding a job and Brad delays the conversation to a later time and leaves to a friends house to relax by smoking marijuana. Brad is presented the idea of becoming a corrections officer by Gomer. Years later, he becomes a corrections officer and member of a highly feared prison gang that is among the guards. He carries in cell phones and drugs to the inmates and gets paid for it. When he goes home, he tries to be a loving husband to his wife and a caring father to his daughter. He trains in a fighting center weekly to stay in shape and to protect himself. Things change one day when his father reveals that he's going blind in his right eye. Insurance won't cover a needed operation to prevent the blindness from happening. Violence, lies, drugs, and manipulation occur between Brad, co- workers, drug dealers, and higher ranking officers that work in the prison, all while Brad makes all efforts to help his father, provide for his family, and up hold his reputation at the prison."
