Production Description

Seeking participants for an improvised theater event. Company states: "Participants will star in four different shows over four days and work with four legendary directors in a career changing and resume building opportunity. Is it a retreat? Is it an intensive? Is it a performance opportunity? All of the above. See how it feels to do work you love for 12 hours a day, in 'the city that never sleeps,' then put on a show at night."

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations

Rehearses and runs Fall 2014 in NYC.

Compensation & Union Contract Details

No pay. $600 required fee for all four days; $175 for one day. Company states: "This is an improvised theater project and is open to union and nonunion actors. Register for 'the full monty' (all four days), or register for individual day passes for the days you can attend. Each day ends in a performance directed by legendary improvisers flown in for the event."

About the Directors

Gary Austin, founder of LA’s The Groundlings and member of the Committee in San Francisco, has taught and directed hundreds of successful actor/improvisers including Helen Hunt, Lisa Kudrow, Helen Slater, and Lillias White. He currently coaches and directs around the country, as well as in Los Angeles, where his ensembles, Dog Bread, Cat’s Milk, and Schlotz, regularly perform at The Groundlings Theatre.

Michael J. Gellman, a former Main Stage performer at Chicago’s Second City, has directed for Second City in London and Toronto (Canada) and in Detroit and Chicago (U.S.), along the way working with, directing and teaching major actor/improvisers including Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Tina Fey and Dave Pasquesi, among others. He is Senior Faculty at Chicago’s Second City Training Center and at Columbia College in Chicago.

David Razowsky, also a former Main Stage performer from Chicago’s Second City, was Artistic Director and Dean of the Second City Training Center in LA for 8 years. He has worked with such improv luminaries as Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, and Amy Sedaris. He has taught and directed for Second City (Chicago, Los Angeles, and Touring Company), UCB Los Angeles and iO West and continues to teach and direct around the country.

Scotty Watson, former member of The Second City Canadian National Touring Company, is currently Head of Artistic New Directions’ New York Faculty. He has performed in Canada and the U.S. with Ed Asner, Eric Stoltz, and Gerard Depardieu, among others. He directs New York improv teams for Improvisation News and many other independent troupes.
