Production Description

Casting "Julian and Romero," making its world premiere as part of Theater for New City's Dream Up Festival. Synopsis: "A fabled story of two young Cuban men in the 1960s, one a communist soldier under Castro's revolution, and one a closeted gay young man, who were both best friends growing up but are now at odds with each other's beliefs, politically, religiously and culturally. The story is told in scenes and monologues within the play at a UMAP prison camp and there are subplots and relationship issues that also follow between the prisoner and the soldier. It is an agonizing look at a rich cultural history, filled with music of Cuba's yesteryear, American dreams and the will to survive against all odds, with some comedic humor by the adults in the room. It is part 'Fantasticks' and part 'Before Night Falls.'
