Production Description

Casting "Kids In The City." Creator states: "Imagine a series real and raw like the movie "Kids," but witty and tight like the “Sex In The City" series. In New York City in the 1990’s/2000's, a kind and clever girl, the youngest in a well-off (but broken) South American family, slowly recognizes the consequences of her “savior complex” and codependent tendencies as she navigates relationships. Situations and other characters represent social norms or ideals that Angie is questioning and challenging as she struggles to define her femininity, identity, personal values, and world view. We see her in high school, college and her ensuing careers in music and writing, through cultural phenomena and events such as the advent of the internet, cell phones, Y2K, and September 11."

In 1993, in New York City, we get to know Angie (15, plump, pretty, mixed-race Latina) as we follow her from her summer job at the Central Park Circus, to her sophomore year at the International School of New York in the fall (including a flashback to freshman year when she gets into a major nightclub using fake ID, with disastrous results). We see Angie with characters like charming co-worker Patrick, a cynical former child-actor who treats her like an adult, and kindhearted schoolmate Valerie, just home from a stint in rehab. Angie’s more confident than she used to be, and as she learns the ropes of being a "cool kid" she makes new friends at school. When they’re not experimenting with psychedelics, they entertain themselves with “harmless” gossip, that is, until Angie lets down an old friend in a misguided attempt at matchmaking.
