Role Description
Mr. Lupino/Meanman of Morgo : (Lead) Actor plays two roles. Mr. Lupino is 40s, hard-working, cold, traditional, and business-like, given to fits of anger when his control of a situation is jeopardized. He finds whimsy threatening. He is not very affectionate towards his wife or daughter, but dotes on his two-year-old son Otto. The Meanman of Morgo is a red-faced humanoid alien seeking to rid the galaxy of children, which he views as vermin. Much of his villainy is concentrated in his long, twisty, and virile mustache, which functions as an antenna for detecting juvenile hijinks. Note: While the same actor will play both parts, two distinct characterizations are encouraged.
Production Description
The Shelter is casting "Lily & Kosmo Live." In 1951, Lily Lupino is a 6-year-old Brooklynite who regularly escapes into her favorite radio serials. But when Kosmo Kidd crash lands in her living room, Lily jumps at the chance to join Kosmo's crew of boy astronauts, or "Spacetronauts," and experience a real live space adventure. Together Lily and Kosmo face a host of galactic perils, culminating in a terrifying confrontation with the vilest villain in space, the child-hating Meanman of Morgo. But Lily's biggest challenge is proving to her new peers that a girl from Brooklyn has all it takes to be a true Spacetronaut.
Lily & Kosmo Live is a multi-media theatrical event, incorporating live performance, projected animation, and live sound effects/music. Actors will perform in a manner similar to a live broadcast serial of the 1950s, standing at microphones, with minimal blocking and physicalization. The roles of children will be played by adults. Actors playing Davy C. Rocket, Pando, and Gernsback will also play various incidental characters.
