Download SYLLABUS..PDF (129.3 KB) The Lombardi Arts Center is a theater company with the mission to produce drama in a safe environment, strive for creative originality, promote toleration, and increase awareness. Our philosophy is that acting is storytelling through the portrayal of a character. Actors can use any acting technique they find helps them portray their character best, whether it's classical acting, Stanislavski's system, the Michael Chekhov technique, method acting, the Meisner technique, or practical aesthetics. Acting is an art, and art is fundamentally imitation, referenced from Aristotle's ancient Greek concept of 'mīmēsis' in his book entitled 'The Poetics,' but an actor should originate their own unique interpretation of a character and never imitate another actors'. Actors are merely imitating by developing the use of their own tools such as imagination and motivation. Likewise in stage combat, actors aren't actually fighting, they are imitating a fight where no one actually gets hurt. Acting should be as simple as imagining it's raining, snowing, or that the temperature is cold or hot.

The Lombardi Arts Center promotes a clean lifestyle. Smoking or excessive drinking is discouraged, while eating right and exercising is encouraged. Clean living is important not only for your art, but for yourself as an artist in creating organic originality. People in real life have tragic flaws, but in portraying them through our imitation we certainly should never take these flaws into our own lives. The stage above all must be a safe environment for all those working on and around it.
