Casting "Lord of the Flies," a film in which at the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of British schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate. This far from civilization they can do anything they want. Anything. But as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far removed from reality as the hope of being rescued.

You can take spears if you want but I shan’t. What’s the good? I’ll have to be led like a dog, anyhow. Yes, laugh. Go on, laugh. There's them on this island as would laugh at anything. And what happened? What's grownups goin' to think? Young Simon was murdered. And there was that other kid what had a mark on his face. Who's seen him since we first come here? I got the conch. I’m going to that Jack Merridew an’ tell him, I am. What can he do more than he has? I'll tell him what's what. You let me carry the conch, Ralph. I'll show him the one thing he hasn't got. I'm going to him with this conch in my hands. I'm going to hold it out. Look, I'm goin' to say, you're stronger than I am and you haven't got asthma. You can see, I'm goin' to say, and with both eyes. But I don't ask for my glasses back, not as a favor. I don't ask you to be a sport, I'll say, not because you're strong, but because what's right's right. Give me my glasses, I'm going to say--you got to!
Your only hope is keeping a signal fire going as long as there's light to see. Then maybe a ship'll notice the smoke and come and rescue us and take us home. But without that smoke we've got to wait till some ship comes by accident. We might wait years; till we were old--Don't you understand, you painted fools? Sam, Eric, Piggy, and me--we aren't enough. We tried to keep the fire going, but we couldn't. And then you, playing at hunting… Look at that! Call that a signal fire? That's a cooking fire. Now you'll eat and there'll be no smoke. Don't you understand? There may be a ship out there. and you, Jack, you voted for me for chief. Didn't you hear the conch? You played a dirty trick--we'd have given you fire if you'd ask for it-- You could have had fire whenever you wanted. But you didn't, you came sneaking up and stole Piggy's glasses like a thief. You're a beast and a swine and a bloody, bloody thief!
The beast is a hunter. Only--shut up! The next thing is that we couldn’t kill it. And the next thing is that Ralph said my hunters are no good. Ralph thinks you’re cowards, running away from the boar and the beast. And that’s not all. He’s like piggy. He says things like piggy. He isn’t a proper chief. He’s a coward himself. He’s not a hunter. He’d never have got us meat. We don’t know anything about him. HE just gives orders and expects people to obey for nothing. All this talk! Who thinks Ralph oughtn’t to be chief? Hands up, whoever wants Ralph not to be chief? How many think-- All right then. Fine, I’m going off by myself. He can catch his own pigs. Anyone who wants to hunt when I do can come too. And as for you, I’m not going to play any longer. Not with you.
Last night I had a dream, a horrid dream. I was outside the shelter by myself, fighting with things, those twisty things in the trees.-- then I was frightened and I woke up. And I was outside the shelter by myself in the dark and the twisty things had gone away. And I was frightened and started to call out for Ralph and then i saw something moving among the trees, something big and horrid. -- it wasn’t a nightmare! I was asleep when the twisty things were fighting. but when they went away I was awake, and I saw something big and dreadful moving in the trees. --it must’ve been a monster.
