SISTER: One thing? Only one thing?
ANGELO: Yes. You should sleep, we leave early tomorrow.
SISTER: It’s not fair. (Beat) What about our cow?
ANGELO: We’ve sold it to the neighbors.
SISTER: I’ll miss her. (Beat) What are you bringing?
ANGELO: I don’t know. Mama’s taking her favorite pots, Papa’s brining his tools.
SISTER: But I have three dolls. Gia, Mita, Fia. I love them all.
ANGELO: Just one.
SISTER: Why only one?
ANGELO: Because that’s the rules. Papa said so.
SISTER: Do we have to go? I want to stay. With my dolls.
ANGELO: You could hold one, and pack another.
SISTER: I’d take Fia with me, but that still leaves one. They need each other.
ANGELO: Fine. Your doll can take my space.
SISTER: Really?
ANGELO: I have pockets. I’ll carry my own things. Now go to sleep.
(BEAT)
