Production Description

Seeking for Lyric Arts Ensemble Company. Personnel states: "You are invited to participate in one of the two-hour workshop-auditions for the pilot production of the Lyric Arts Ensemble Company. The ensemble company will be made up of eight interdisciplinary highly skilled performers. Company members will be trained so they are comfortable discussing the content of the production and any post performance arts-enrichment activities with a diverse audience, often comprised of undeserved populations. The first production "What’s Your Bag," is a current adaptation of “Baggage on Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs," a highly successful participatory musical that toured to audiences that totaled over 125,000."

Rehearses Jan. 13-14, 20-21, 27-28 and Feb. 3-4, 10-11, and 17-18, 2014; performs Feb. 22, 2014 in L.A.

Executive Director of the Lyric Arts Ensemble Company, Workshop facilitator, Noerena Abookire, Ph.D.

Dr. Abookire holds a Ph.D. from New York University’s School of Education, Health Nursing and Arts Profession. Her area of specialization is in the use of theatre and interdisciplinary arts for personal and community empowerment. She was a teaching fellow during her years at NYU and studied Theatre in Education techniques in England as part of Breton Hall College’s University of Leeds. She was the Artistic Director and Experimental Curricula Specialist for the Cleveland School of the Arts, and Executive Director and founder of Arts Educational Theatre Company (Arts E.T.C.), an educational theatre company based in Cleveland Ohio that received over a million dollars in funding over it’s six year history. Dr. Abookire has been the Academy Award Nominee Lesley Ann Warren’s coach on over twenty films including "Victor Victoria," "Choose Me," "Clue," and "The Songwriter."

Ryan Braun has had an extensive career as both a performer and producer in Los Angeles, New York City, and Florida. Upon finishing his degree at UCLA with a BA in Theater, Film and Television, he produced and directed a critically acclaimed sell-out run of "Into the Woods" at the Lyric Theatre, marking his fifth show at the Lyric. He was then hired by Universal Attractions, the largest talent-booking agency in the world, as a junior agent in New York City. There, he designed a marketing strategy for artists such as Deborah Cox and Jennifer Holiday that was used to book performances in Pride Festivals worldwide. He continued to work in New York as a performer most notably in David LaChapelle’s "From Darkness to Light," a dance installation at the Lever House Museum, as well as David LaChapelle’s "Transcending Form," a full-length dance piece of which he also associate produced. After completing his contract with Broward Stage Door Theatre in Florida, Ryan returned to Los Angeles to take over as Director of Programming of the Lyric Theatre. There he has managed Lyric’s expansion from a theater performance space to a concert and theatrical venue and further developed Lyric’s range of performances and educational programs. He was most recently seen dancing Jerry Mitchell's original Broadway choreography in "Legally Blonde" (Aaron Scultz) with Cabrillo Music Theater in Los Angeles.
