JOHN MERRICK: (30’s) Suffers from an unknown disease which has deformed his body, isolating him from the rest of society as he earns a living by becoming a side-show attraction. Intelligent and funny. Incredibly lonely.
DR. FREDERICK TREVES: (40’s) A brilliant upcoming surgeon and teacher intrigued by Merrick’s disorder. Rescues Merrick. Rigid and uncompromising. Victorian gentlemen.
MRS. KENDALL: (21-45) A socialite actress. Open minded, friendly and caring. Friends with Merrick.
CARR GROMM: (40-65) Administrator of the London Hospital. Self-serving.
ROSS: (40-64) Manager of The Elephant Man. A shady, low brow thief and freak show agent.
LORD JOHN: (30-45) Upper Class gentleman involved in shady financial dealings.
PORTER: (30-40) Low class worker.
BISHOP WALSHAM HOW: (40-65) Concerned religious official. Has empathy for others, but only on religious matters.
SNORK: (30-65) A Porter who brings Merrick his meals.
CONDUCTOR: (30-65) Low class worker. Tries to do the right thing but is too closed minded to succeed.
