Production Description
Purple Rose Theatre is casting its 2013-14 season. Season includes "The Vast Difference," by Jeff Daniels (Rehearsals begin Aug. 20; runs Sept. 19-28), "Redwood Curtain," by Lanford Wilson (Rehearsals begin Dec. 10; runs Jan. 16-Mar.15, 2014), "2 A.Z.," a world-premiere play by Michael Brian Ogden (Rehearsals begin Mar. 4, 2014; runs Apr. 3-May 24, 2014), and "The Last Romance," by Joe Dipietro (Rehearsals begin May 13, 2014; runs June 12-Aug. 30, 2014). FULL CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
"The Vast Difference"—George Noonan: 30s, flight attendant. Rita Noonan: 30s, George's wife. Earl Noonan: 42, George's father. Dr. Howard: 40s, a urologist. (4) Males: to play assorted roles.
"Redwood Curtain"—Lyman Fellers: male, 38, veteran of the Vietnam War. Geri Riordan: female, 17, Asian-American. Geneva Simonson: female, mid-40s.
"2 A. Z."—Samantha Riley: 40s-60s, once a congresswoman, now President of what remains of the United States of America. Kelly Paxton: 20s-30s, tough, edgy, difficult to get close to. Rachel Mogilny: 20s-40, a nurse, strong willed but generous of spirit. Brian Channing: 30s-40s, Delta Force operator, level-headed, decisive. Jeff Rylance: 30s-40s, former English teacher, a kind man and loving father, protective. Jacob Shanks: late 30s-50, Delta Force operator, no-nonsense, gruff but with a squishy candy middle, Channing's second in command. Kristina Rylance: 9-16, Jeff's daughter, somewhat precocious, into firearms. John Sanford: 40s-70s, a genetic botanist, somewhat eccentric, not quite suited to survival in a zombie-littered landscape. Billy: 40s-50s, a coalition slaver, cunning, dangerous, patriotic in his own way. James: all ages, a flunky of Billy. Charlie: all ages, another flunky of Billy's. Zombie Chorus: all ages, should be strong movers with decent flexibility, dancing background is a plus but not required.
"The Last Romance"—Ralph Bellini: 80, vigorous and full of life. Carol Reynolds: 70s, attractive, proper, very well dressed. Rose Tagliatelle: 70s. The Young Man: early 20s, baby-faced with a beautiful singing voice.
