Seeking participants for the Winter 2014 session of Ted Kociolek's Musical Theater Audition/Performance Technique Workshop. Instructor states: "Lacking confidence in your musical theater auditions? Uncertain of your approach to material? Choosing inappropriate repertoire for your type? Suffering from performance anxiety? Walk into your next audition prepared and confident. The structured six-week course offers the singing actor the opportunity to learn/refine a technique of activating/interpreting musical theatre materials and building your audition portfolio, with the objective of communicating the individual--you--through performance. I initially assign a song to the group (performed individually) so that everyone is on the same page with the process. I then recommend what I consider to be excellent audition material of both standard and contemporary vintage, tailored to each individual's vocal/physical type, etc. (students are also encouraged to bring in additional material if prepping for an audition, etc). You'll be up and singing before the class every week in a safe and supportive environment. Other topics, such as 16-bar cuts, audition protocol, etc., are covered as a matter of course during the workshop. Current/recent bookings by students include: 'The Sound of Music' (Live), 'Pippin' (Broadway), 'Spiderman' (Broadway), 'Mamma Mia' (Broadway), and 'Mary Poppins' (national tour). Note: This a musical theater class/workshop, not a production."
