Synopsis

Begins with the chance meeting between Leu, a sexy nightclub performer, who sings of broken hearts (in Mandarin even though she is white) as a mask for her own relationship wounds, and Tony, a handsome, funny but boyish Chinese man who is visiting San Francisco and must leave by the end of the evening. Their initial flirts seamlessly counterpoint the two of them, five years in the future, when they are struggling to keep the verve alive in their stagnant relationship. As they discover one another in one moment of time, with lust and anxiety building, the film swings to the disintegration in the other moment, the despair and frustration fomenting. As the desire grows, Leu realizes that this is just a game and Tony must leave her, while in the future, Leu can no longer see the reason to stay with Tony. The quandaries in both times propel the couple into a collision that will either save or destroy the relationship in both periods.
