Production Description
Christopher Capelluto (dir.) is casting "Park 51," a student film for New York University about a young struggling Iraq War veteran who saves the life of a Muslim man from a hate crime in New York City. Director states: "The film takes place at the height of the 2010 protests against the Park 51 mosque being built a few blocks away from ground zero. Matt is a struggling Iraq war veteran and Amir is a supporter of the Park 51 mosque and the owner of a nearby convience store. He is attacked because of his support of the mosque. Matt and Amir must put their differences aside and work together. The films ultimate message is that religions and races are not the problem but radicalism of any kind is the true enemy. The writer/director of the project is an Iraq War veteran himself and is excited to be making this project as his thesis film at NYU."
