Production Description

Casting "Period of Adjustment" for the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater 2014 season. The play is a rare comedy (albeit labeled “serious comedy”) by Tennessee Williams written in 1960. It centers on the Christmas Eve reuniting of two Korean War and WWII buddies and their on-the-rocks marriages. Set near Nashville, Ralph and Dorthea have been together for six years and separated for less than 24 hours in a lackluster marriage; while George and Isabel have been married almost 48 hours, yet have spoken not one civil word to one another in that time. The two polar opposite views of these troubled relationships (one from the end looking backwards, the other from the beginning looking forward) reveal a new-found love and understanding for each respective couple. With some not-so-subtle commentary on the ravages of war, early-sixties television culture and human sexuality, it is a rare and little-know Williams gem. It was made into a film in 1962 starring Jane Fonda, Tony Franciosa, Jim Hutton and Lois Nettleson.
