About Heather Benton

Heather Benton specializes in the integration of acting and movement techniques drawing on the influences of Viewpoints, Suzuki, Droznin Body Work, Stanislavski, Practical Aesthetics, and Jerzy Grotowski. Her work explores visual metaphor, magical realism and celebrates high content and high form.

She is a company member of the award winning international company East River Commedia (Serenade and Philosopher Fox, The Magnificent Cuckold, AutoMotive) co-founder of the Flying Sandbox, an actor-training studio of physical theatre and co-producer of the Undergroundzero Festival in NYC. She has an ongoing collaborative relationship with Theatre Trouve (Living With Betty, Half Awake and Falling through the Sky) as an actor and a writer.

Heather is currently an Assistant Professor and the Head of the BFA Acting Program at Montclair State University in New Jersey where she teaches acting and movement and directs. She served five years at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York, as a member of the core faculty (teaching acting styles and movement), Head of the Movement Department, and a director. She is a member of the Actors’ Equity and received her MFA in Acting from ART/MXAT under Robert Woodruff’s artistic leadership.
