About the Show

Tamar of the River was originally developed with support from the American Musical Voices Project: The Next Generation at Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia. Its ensemble-driven musical score has been inspired by influences of Middle Eastern, Jewish, Asian music and pre-Western chanting. Auditioners are encouraged to visit the composer’s website or to better understand the musical style.

Working together, the ensemble of actors will collectively embody the River as well as playing the following individual characters that step in and out of the River to play roles. The River sings sometimes in canon, sometimes improvisationally, sometimes in close harmonies, and often with extended musical sounds using words from various world languages.
