Production Description

Seeking performers for The Bowery Birds, a singing group of 15 to 25 year old women. The Bowery Birds will be singing and recording two original modern rock operas by Downtown Art about women of New York's Lower East Side, including "The Waistmakers' Opera" and "The Great Struggle for Cheap Meat." Members will also learn new music (about women's struggle to win the right to vote) and period songs, some in original settings, some in contemporary arrangements.

Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations

Weekly rehearsals are held Wed., 6-8 p.m. at Downtown Art, 61 E. 4th St., 7th Floor, NYC. Recording dates and performances will be scheduled throughout the season, starting in late September. The Bowery Birds will be recording and also singing live in concerts in a range of venues, including schools and colleges around the city, culminating in a number of events for the launch of 'Lower East Side History Month' in May 2014.
