NYU Ireland House
Production Description
NYU Ireland House is casting two staged readings of "The Catholic Question," a new play adapted from William Sampson's published account of the landmark 1813 court case People v. Philips. The story evolves from a jewelry theft to an argument about freedom for religious minorities because the principal witness was a Catholic priest who wouldn’t divulge in court what he had heard in confession.
The play will be read twice as part of a weekend-long symposium being held in celebration of the case's bicentennial, and is being produced by New York University’s Glucksman Ireland House as part of its 20th anniversary. Other events planned for the weekend include talk-backs and professional panels discussing the landmark issues.
Rehearsal and Production Dates & Locations
Minimal rehearsals; staged readings perform the evening of April 12 at the NYU Law School in NYC & the afternoon of April 12 at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
