Role Description

Doke Solinus: (Supporting) Duke of Ephesus (may be called Duke of Ellington); ideally a fair skinned or mixed-race actor of color who, with hair and make up might believably pass for Duke Ellington; must be an extremely charismatic, large presence able to convey power, strength and elegance effortlessly; can be enigmatic, elusive and surprising; should have believable, Ellingtonian elegance, style and panache; like a living Van der Zee portrait; must sing jazz or Rand B in the style of Ellington or Cab Calloway. Note: Actor must sing a Jazz or R&B; song a capella in the audition. Actor will also play James Bevel in “The Great Society.”
