Role Description

All Roles: (Lead) roles include--Lee Ransom, a dark-skinned black man of about 65, a stocky, decadent-looking novelist; Veronica Ransom, approx. 40, his spouse, tall, refined, a light-skinned Haitian from an upper class family; Ruth Ransom, Lee’s mother, a brown-skinned middle class school teacher, anti-Communist; Hank, approx. 30-35, a dark-skinned, stout man, dresses like a merchant marine (i.e. Navy pea coat, knitted cap); Mabel, approx. 30, a buxom white woman, wears pearls, white gloves that reach her elbows, and makeup, an heiress; Bess, approx. 30, dark-skinned, short; Editor: a plain, bohemian-looking white woman, no makeup, plain stockings, wears glasses, messy hair, wears a silver-grey wig, fur coat, jewelry, and makeup in a later scene; Ernest Perkins, wears jeans, a tweed sport jacket, turtleneck sweater, thin, ascetic, wears glasses. WASP Narrator: an Anglo male country club type, wears a blazer and grey slacks; Newscaster, female, Puerto Rican.
