1. INT. AVRAMS LIVINGROOM. NIGHT
Design is dark and grim with a lot of white, as if it is snowing at night in Berlin. European influences.
Avram is laying in his living room sofa, wearing nothing but a gown and covered in a blanket with 2 pillows under his head. Water, tissues and a lot of medicine next to him. Avram appears frail, fragile and dying, he can barely lift his hands as he reaches in front of him as if seeing his dead wife. His expression changes as he sees her pull away. He screams but his voice is barely heard, he tries hard.
Nora rushes into the room from the kitchen.
Dad what is it?
She asks frightened.
I’m here… I’m here next to you.
She kneels at the Sofa, takes his frail hand and wraps it with both of hers.
Come sit by the sofa.
Close to me.
She moves closer to him. Her hand keeps caressing his and her head is leaning to his. His blue eyes stare at her. Suddenly she is next to him, his Miriam, his wife. He wants to tell her he loves her. But it’s too hard, when did he say this to her last? Miriam strokes his white hair that used to be lush and proud and today is thin and dry.
Tell the workers to cover the barrels in the yard and lock the doors.
He says in an authoritative voice. He is confused. Must be because of the medicine.
You are here at your house papa. Not the factory. You sold the factory a long time ago. Doctor Bornstein says if you get stronger he will lower your dosage… Are you listening to me?
His face is now very close to hers. It’s Nora! Nora whose blue eyes and dark smooth hair she got from him and her youthful figure from his Miriam.
You are beautiful like your mother.
He says with a soft voice. A car engine is heard from the street.
The engine is all wrong.
she listens, smiling.
Remember what a shitty WulxWagen I had? Always got stuck on the main street.
The twinkle in Nora’s eye as she said that gave him pleasure.
You never complained, nor asked for anything.
His voice is faint and weaker. Nora caresses his thin hand that seems even whiter than the sheet it is on.
But I didn’t always listen to you, did I?
A sharp cough stops his laughter and speech. Nora straightens up sharply.
Dad, what came over you talking like that? You need to rest, save your effort. That’s what Dr. Bornstein said. Would you like something to drink? I’ll get it for you from the kitchen.
She gets up, her back turned to him, her figure so youthful in spite of all of the years that have gone by. Where is she going my Miriam?
Miriam, don’t go, don’t leave me.
Here she is turning her face to him and back sitting beside him.
I’m Nora Dad, and I’m here next to you.
