Production Description

Casting "The Philanderer," by George Bernard Shaw. Synopsis: Leonard Charteris (a confirmed philanderer) is pursued by Grace, a genuinely liberated young widow who has no interest in marriage, and Julia, despite her professed feminist views, who definitely has marriage in mind. A battle of the sexes ensues and Leonard outwits Julia by getting her married off to Dr. Paramore, a dedicated medical researcher who has mistakenly persuaded her father (Colonel Craven) that he has a fatal disease. Julia's younger sister Sylvia is an avid feminist active at the Ibsen Club and Colonel Craven and Grace's father (Joseph Cuthbertson) are totally befuddled by the antics of the younger "modern Ibsenist" generation. Shaw, tongue-in-cheek, parodies the medical profession, feminism, marriage, divorce and the generation gap in this witty play - all relevant today.
