Male, ages 55-80, Caucasian

Role Description

Sorin: (Lead) 55-80 to play 60, Arcadina's brother. Kostya's uncle. A retired State Councilor. Submit if you can believably portray 60 years old. Should be on the frailer/skinnier side. Kostya's uncle. In many ways, he is the intermediary between Arcadina and Kostya. Since Kostya lives with him in the country, he knows Kostya best. Sorin wanted two things in life, to be a writer and to get married and have a family, he never did either, and reminds us of this in a very endearing way multiple times in the play. Sorin also has a special place for Nina in his heart and mentions his love for her. As an elderly man (60 was considered elderly in 1895) Sorin has some health issues, which Dorn, the doctor, helps him deal with by giving him Valerian root one moment in the play, he faints, and at others he is pushed around in a wheelchair. Because of this, I see the actor who plays Sorin as being on the frailer side... Definitely not an in shape or muscular type of guy.
