Role Description

Angustia: (Lead) grandmother; Latina, preferably Cuban but not required; Spanish speaking role. Santera (Afro-Cuban religion known as Santeria); interesting and beautiful-looking but worn down by life, (a real person) usually wears a lot of makeup and jewelry; a self-taught hair stylist; works at home, where in the living-room/terraza there are chairs and a mirror she calls “salon” (su peluquería); uneducated, cranky, complains a lot, also gossips, very arrogant, a bit overweight or curvy, overprotective, opinionated, talkative, self-centered, the whole community knows her or about her; she is now taking care of her nieto Carlos while Dawn (Carlos’s mother and her daughter) is in Europe. Director states “I want someone who can capture the honest darkness of this character. A grandmother who wants the best for her loved ones but makes the wrong choices. She is blinded by her beliefs.”
