Lombardi Arts Center
Michael Lombardi, instructor

Production Description

Seeking participants for the Lombardi Arts Center Theater workshops. "Program I" workshops will be offered in NYC. Instructor states: "The classes will cover vocal warm-ups, acting, techniques, and other theater related topics such as accents, dialects, improvisation, and the performing arts resume. The Lombardi Arts Center is a theater company with the mission to produce drama in a safe environment, strive for creative originality, promote toleration, and seek to increase awareness. Our philosophy is that acting is storytelling through the portrayal of a character. There are many techniques in acting such as: Classical acting, Stanislavski's system, the Michael Chekhov Technique, Method acting, the Meisner technique, and Practical Aesthetics. An actor or actress should use whatever technique they like best, and find helps them portray their character. Acting is an art, and art is fundamentally imitation, referenced from Aristotle's Ancient Greek concept of 'mīmēsis' in his book entitled 'The Poetics.' However, an actor or actress should never imitate the way other people have portrayed characters in drama, rather they should originate their own unique interpretation. Moreover, it's important to realize that you are not the character you're acting as, rather, you are merely imitating by developing the use of tools such as imagination and motivation. Likewise in stage combat, the actors aren't actually fighting, they are imitating a fight where no one actually gets hurt. Acting should be as simple as imagining it's raining, snowing, or that the temperature is cold or hot. Further, the Lombardi Arts Center promotes a clean lifestyle. Smoking or excessive drinking is discouraged, rather eating right and exercising provides a clear proper prospective for the stage. Clean living is important not only for your art, but for yourself as an artist creating true organic originality. People in real life have tragic flaws, but in portraying them through our imitation we certainly should never take these flaws into our own lives. The stage above all must be a safe environment for all those working on and around it."
