Role Description
Mahlik: (Lead) A gay teenage runaway with a history of sexual abuse. His crisis comes from a lack of dreams, of not seeing a future for himself at all. For Mahlik, a boy who yearns for love and security, the search for a 'daddy' is both literal and heartbreakingly sincere. Mahlik is a good kid, though not terribly bright. He’s strong enough to leave an intolerable situation at home, but not smart enough to think more than a few steps ahead and realize how truly tough life on the street would be. In the script, a history of sexual abuse at the hands of his uncle, Maurice, is indicated. Because of this, Mahlik is torn up inside and, like many young men his age, finds himself completely incapable of articulating his emotional state.
Production Description
Mirror Matter Movies is casting "Trouble with Dreams," a feature-length film. Producer states: "An internet hook-up. Forbidden desire. Two lives in crisis. 'Trouble with Dreams' is an edgy character-driven gay-themed drama that takes a point-blank look at the inter-generational hookup scene. At the very start the screenplay for 'Trouble with Dreams' grabs the reader by the throat and squeezes hard, never loosening its grip. From the opening image of Bryson's sleazy profile page on Daddy-Search.com all the way to where he meets Mahlik, an emotional intensity builds that is rare in gay cinema. This film is an in-depth character study which, by extension, means that it is an actor's piece. The producers are not looking for actors to come in and read their lines--they're looking for collaborators who will bring something more to these characters than what is in the script."
