"ANIMAL CRACKERS"

HIVES/ROSCOE W. CHANDLER

(Male 40s-50s) Hives is extremely witty and great with status. He is the servant who can insult you to your face, but you take it as a compliment. Roscoe W. Chandler is a rich tycoon. Will likely sing and dance.

MRS. RITTENHOUSE

(Female 30s-50s) The host of the party. A regal socialite who is always put together; she is a real dame. Does not sing a great deal, but should be musically gifted.

ARABELLA RITTENHOUSE/MRS. WHITEHEAD

(Female 20s-40s) Mrs. Whitehead is a conniving socialite trying to thwart Rittenhouse's success. Shes sharp, smart, sarcastic and clever. Arabella is Mrs. Rittenhouse's daughter. She and Wally Winston make a sophisticated and erudite couple. Seeking actress with great comic chops. Sings and dances a great deal.

M. DOUCET/WALLY WINSTON/SGT. HENNESSEY/BUTLER

(Male 30s-40s) Doucet is an art loving Frenchman. Wally Winston is sexy, sarcastic and full of charm; an intellectual with great love for life. Does a great deal of singing and dancing.

GRACE CARPENTER/MARY STEWART/ GIRL B

(Female 25-35) Seeking a strong character actress who can transform easily to play multiple parts. Grace is Whitehead's sister and partner in crime; a schemer. Mary Stewart is the earnest ingénue. Seeking a strong singer and dancer.

JOHN PARKER/HORATIUS JAMISON (ZEPPO)/BUTLER

(Male 25-35) John Parker is an earnest young lover. Handsome, traditional leading man interested in Mary Stewart; should be a strong singer and a solid dancer. Actor will also play Jamison (Zeppo), the straight man to Groucho's antics.

CAPTAIN JEFFREY T. SPAULDING (GROUCHO)/BUTLER

(30s-40s) He is funny and fierce, with incredible verbal dexterity. He's the anchor of the team; a charming wiseguy. His intelligent and anarchistic sensibility drives the play.

EMANUEL RAVELLI (CHICO)/ BUTLER/MALE A

(Male 20s-40s) Ravelli is a band leader; the musical actor in the ensemble. Ideally seeking an actor who plays the piano and/or other instruments. 'A loose cannon'- with great improv sensibility. A character singer.

THE PROFESSOR (HARPO)/GIRL A

(Male or Female 20s-40s,) An exceptional physical comedian or clown; smart and savvy enough to recreate old routines and help devise new ones. The youngest of the bunch; Harpo has a sweetness and innocence that doesn't exist in the others.

"PYGMALION"

ELIZA DOOLITTLE

(Female 20s-30s) A poor girl who was thrown out by her parents as soon as she was old enough to make a living selling flowers on the street.

MR. DOOLITTLE

(Male 50s-60s) Liza's father, who amuses Higgins very much; he comes into a fortune after the death of an American millionaire to whom Higgins had recommended him.

MRS. HIGGINS

(Female 60s-70s) Henry's mother, who disapproves of her son's wild ways and who takes Liza under her wing.

COLONEL PICKERING

(Male 40s-50s) An Englishman who has served in India and written in the field of linguistics there; a perfect gentleman who always treats Liza with utmost kindness.

MRS. PEARCE

(Female 40s-50s) Higgins' housekeeper; an extremely proper and class-aware lady, she heartily disapproves of the experiment.

MRS. EYNSFORD HILL

(Female 50s-60"s) Freddy and Clara's mother.

FREDDY EYNSFORD HILL

(Male 20s-30s) A poor, genteel young man who falls in love with Eliza.

"JOHNNY BASEBALL"

JOHNNY O'BRIEN

(Male mid 20s-mid-30s) A brilliantly talented pitcher who breaks in with the Boston Red Sox in 1919 at the age of 19. He is an innocent who was raised in an orphanage, falls in love, hits hard times and his career falls apart. In Act 2 he is 48 years old. He must be a strong tenor.

DAISY WYATT

(Female mid 20s-mid 30s) A beautiful African American blues singer from South Carolina who falls in love with Johnny. She is a feisty, passionate, proud woman who learns how to make her own way in the world. In Act 2 she is 28 years older. Must be an excellent singer. Belt w/ soprano notes.

FAN #9

(Male 60s up) African American man. A mysterious baseball fan with a grudge who knows everything about the Red Sox and their history, including the secret of their Curse. Should be comfortable carrying a tune.

(Male mid-20s-mid-30s) A gifted African American pitcher and war veteran determined to break into the big leagues in 1948.
