45 Academy Awards (1973) Best Actor – “The Godfather” It’s hard to poke fun at Brando for this speech, seeing as he didn’t deliver it. Instead of Brando walking toward the podium, the audience met Sacheen Littlefeather who refused the award on Brando’s behalf, and delivered this: “He… cannot accept this very generous award. And the reasons for this being…the treatment of American Indians today by the film industry…and on television, in movie re-runs and also with recent happenings at Wounded Knee.”
